Travelling in a Superfast express is indeed a grand experience- especially if you get to travel to a beautiful city like Mysore. Mysore has always been a source of fascination for me, especially for its amazing history. The royal, as well as the colonial history and architecture of this city, has always fascinated me as a writer.


Last month, due to a promotional event, I got the chance to visit this amazing city. I took the inter-city Shatabdi Express to travel to Mysore from Bangalore. The railway reservation was not so difficult. I did not even have to visit the station to book my ticket. The online reservation process ensured my confirmed seat and I just had to appear with my cell phone showing the confirmed email.

The awesome trip to the City of Mysore Silk

 

The Shatabdi Express (12007) is a very comfortable train for an intercity trip. It starts from Chennai in the early morning at around 6 am. I had to board the train from Bangalore around 11 am. The train reached at Mysore around 1 pm as scheduled. I had chosen AC Chair car for my journey and it proved to be very comfortable. 


After a relaxing journey, I finally got to visit the beautiful city named Mysore. The train was scheduled in such a way that I reached the city on the same day whereas my event was scheduled on the next day. This gave me some time to enjoy sightseeing. After a quick lunch, I started for the famous Mysore palace, which is indeed a great place to visit. I had read somewhere that Mysore palace looks wonderful especially in the night. So, I remained there until after sundown to enjoy the amazing view of the palace in the night.

Food and Lodging at Mysore

 

The first glimpse of my hotel mesmerized me with its amazing architecture. The Fortune JP Palace is a 4-star hotel which showcases the palatial architecture of Mysore. This hotel is located in Abba Road Nazarbad, about 2 km away from the Mysore palace. This hotel is also well-connected with the rest of the city. Along with all luxuries like the swimming pool, wellness center, and Spa, I liked the excellent view of the surrounding Chamundi Hills.

 

While in Mysore, I had a sudden urge to try the North Indian food. So I went to the famous Tandoori Swagath restaurant located on the Vijay Nagar. The best part of my experience in this restaurant is:

 

  • The restaurant offered me excellent food in the most affordable price. They had a wide range of Mughlai food items for me to select in the menu. 
  •   From Tandoori Chicken to butter Naan, lassi and excellent Mughlai dessert were the highlights of my                     experience.
  •  I also liked the ambiance and the hospitality of the staffs of this restaurant.


Finally, how could I travel to Mysore and return without buying the famous Mysore silk? Although the time was quite short, I managed to buy a couple of Mysore silks for my mother and aunts to bring the million dollar smile on their face!
